What is the difference between a shoebox light and an area light?

A shoebox light (Jarvis CBR Series) uses a traditional rectangular or cobra head form factor common on street lights and utility poles. An area light (Jarvis JSAL-G2 Series) uses a slim, modern profile with advanced optics and features like selectable wattage, CCT, and JarvisLink networked control compatibility. Both mount on the same 2-3/8 inch slip-fitter tenon. The JSAL-G2 is the recommended choice for new installations; the CBR is available for replacements where the traditional form factor is preferred.

Can I replace an existing cobra head fixture with a Jarvis CBR?

Yes. The Jarvis CBR Series uses the industry-standard 2-3/8 inch O.D. round slip-fitter, which fits most existing shoebox and cobra head mounting arms. In most cases, the CBR drops directly onto the existing tenon without any modification to the pole or arm.

Are Jarvis shoebox lights compatible with photocells?

Yes. The CBR Series accepts standard twist-lock photocells for automatic dusk-to-dawn operation. Jarvis stem photocells in 120-277V, 347V, and 480V ratings are compatible. For motion-activated control, the PhotoMotion A312P/A313P mounts into the fixture's knockout.
